This blog was originally set up in 2013 to support a language revitalisation project initiated by the Dieri Aboriginal Corporation that was funded by an Indigenous Languages Support (ILS) grant from the Department of Regional Australia, Local Government, Arts and Sport. The project ran from July 2012 to September 2013 and included linguists Peter K. Austin and Greg Wilson.

The ILS project ran workshops and developed materials to support Dieri language revitalisation, and early entries on this blog reported on the progress of the project.

Since 2014 blog entries discuss subsequent work on the Diyari language with the aim of supporting the learning and transmission of language and culture with the Dieri community.

  2. My research is into the journey made by Dieri men to obtain ochre from the Bookatoo area. I am seeking information about the journey – the time of the year, season – and the subsequent violence between shepherds/squatters that resulted. I am completing a work supported by the Australia Council literature board.
